The History of Our Church
The Colorado National Historic Register Review Board has inducted the Eighth Street Baptist Church in Pueblo, Colorado for inclusion to the National Park Service Keeper on the National Historic Register and the History Colorado on July 1, 2024. Built in 1891, this church has long been a site for Pueblo’s Black community to gather, organize and serve. It also was an important site for the 1893 women’s suffrage campaign in Colorado helping to build support for the cause. The work of Black women and men in the women’s suffrage movement is largely undocumented so it’s incredible to have a site that enables us to know this history. We are so grateful to Pastor Steve and Roxana Mack for enabling us to nominate this site. It truly is important to America’s story.
The Eighth Street Missionary Baptist Church was established in 1876 on Seventh St., in Pueblo Colorado, under the name of Second Baptist Church. In 1889 the members relocated the church on the corner of Eighth and Elizabeth and renamed it Eighth Street Missionary Baptist Church. We are celebrating over a hundred years of studying, preaching, sharing and living the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are a small congregation with much Faith. We are located at 600 W. 8th street in Pueblo, Colorado.
